Shelley: Day 9 - What's up with scales? AND Take a Picture, it will last longer!
So day 9 and I'm currently down 14.1 Lbs which is within 5 Lbs of my low last year!!! Yay!! I have a lot of work to do. In reality, I need to lose close to 50 Lbs to get to a truly healthy weight but I wanted to give myself digestible goals and trounce them one at a time!
Thanks to Cindy and Annie, I am killing it! We've instituted a fabulous practice of texting which is nice for those in-the-moment-insanity-moments. I've still got the flu, but thanks to Prednisone (thank you Dr. at the Instacare!), I finally got in a nearly full tilt workout today. Not exactly 100%, but I'd say 80% of usual. It felt nice to run without getting dizzy.
I'm seriously looking forward to our girl date for Friday night and our get-in-shape date with Alex Richardson (Seriously fabulous trainer) on Tuesday night!
So scales, ugh. I got on last night and weighed 197!!!! I thought, "that's insane, I've been eating spot on and working out, WTH?". I decided that I should chill out before I had an aneurysm and weigh myself in the AM. Low and behold, 192.9. I really shouldn't weigh myself more than once a week. I know better and it is a total recipe for insanity. It's really more about how you feel than your weight anyway. As we exchange muscle for fat we'll get smaller but our actual weights may not go down as fast, as muscle weighs more than fat. It's really most important to look in the mirror, try on clothes, and determine how we feel. Scales are lame!
Today's Breakdown:
| ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
BMR CALC: (1,729+1,094)-1,580= 1,243 Calorie Deficit (3,800 Cals = 1 Lb)
I've got a lot of unused calories today and I don't want to make my body think I'm going into starvation mode, so I'll probably have an apple and a mandarin orange or two later on. But all in all, a pretty good day and great progress. I couldn't be more excited about begin so close to my low point. I'm going to blow past it and keep going. I couldn't do this without you Cindy and Annie! It's always better to have someone to be good for!
TODAY's TIP: Take a Picture, it will last longer!
I'm a busy lady. Like, really busy. I have three small kids and only two arms. Most days, it's a marathon just to keep their names straight. I have therefore developed a strategy to combat my early senility. When I use a recipe more than twice, I know it's going to become a staple. I used to write cards and keep them in my purse but as all of my personal possessions have been confiscated by my children I have learned to take a picture (I refuse to give up my phone to my little dictators!). I posted a photo above of a recipe I use all the time. I don't like broccoli so I use frozen cauliflower instead (I'm too lazy for the fresh stuff). The up-side to this strategy is when I find myself on the go but with 10 minutes for grocery shopping I'm not guessing or trying to come up with something brilliant on the go. I simply whip out my phone, put on my smug, I know what I'm cooking smile, and shop the recipe. This way, I can also shop more than one recipe at a time. I generally try to cover two days in one shop. When you're eating super fresh, it's nice to go about every-other day. The other benefit, I can share with my friends! So thank you Everyday Food Light for this go-to recipe that keeps me fed and happy;).
